Jan. 27, 2006 - G. Steven Dawson and his wife Deanna, both 1980 graduates of Texas A&M University, have established a $300,000 endowed fellowship to support the research, teaching, services and professional development of a faculty member in the real estate program at Mays.
“Faculty are the cornerstone to building and enhancing our academic programs,” said Dean Jerry Strawser. “The Dawsons’ most generous gift will enable us to attract and retain top minds in real estate, who will provide our students with a top-flight education and many competitive advantages throughout their careers.”
Dawson, who graduated with a BBA in accounting, is a private investor who serves on the boards of directors of six public real estate investment trusts and is involved in private equity initiatives. From 1990 to 2003, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Houston-based Camden Property Trust, one of the largest multifamily housing companies in the United States. He is currently member of the boards of directors of American Campus Communities, AmREIT, Desert Capital, Medical Properties Trust, Sunset Financial Resources and Trustreet Properties. Steve and his wife Deanna, who earned a BBA in marketing, have been married for 24 years. They make their home in Sugar Land, Texas, with their four children. Their oldest son, Tyler, is a sophomore finance major at Mays Business School.
“Texas A&M played an important role in shaping our lives, values and relationships,” Dawson said. “We want to return the favor and believe that the One Spirit One Vision Campaign is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact. We want to see Texas A&M and its real estate degree programs continue to rise in prominence and stature nationally.”
