This old house… becomes a home
Generosity of spirit helps Extreme Makeover dreams come true. Just ask John Speer ’71 and Matt Henderson ’05
On the last day of a 105-hour push to build a new home for a family, Royce Builders workers and volunteers propped their elbows on fence posts and shook mud off their boots while others whisked remaining items into the house for placement — a landscape painting, wooden bookshelf, pillows for a deck chair.
Exploring Southeast Asia's beauty and challenges
Malecha lured to Papua New Guinea's economic hurdles and unspoiled landscape
A world away on the islands of Papua New Guinea, a vibrant sunset swirls with a rainbow of breath-taking purples, oranges and pinks overlooking green landscapes, soaring mountains and endless crystal waters. Tucked into the South Pacific and the Coral Sea, the land is dotted with 800 native tribes. Any given night, fire dancers kick at the flames with their leaf-adorned ankles and Mud Men disguise themselves in heavy, fragile masks of mud.
Neiman Marcus turns to Mays grads
When one of the world’s most famous department stores needs new buyers, it looks first in its own backyard: Dallas-based Neiman Marcus has hired ten marketing students from Mays in just the last four years.

Built by Love
One Mays student has turned tragedy into a business plan to help others heal
Just outside College Station lies a two-acre plot of land with a white rock road twisting toward a large red barn and connected two-bed, two-bath house. The front yard regularly pastures neighbor’s horses and the barn itself stands open to the world, welcoming in evening’s cool breezes. It is a picturesque place and one would never know that anything was amiss except its occupant, Mandy LaCombe ’05.
Demand spikes for Mays INFO majors
Given the trends in salary offers and new business opportunities, IT careers are hot again
Employers in need of management information systems graduates are seeking face-time at Mays — and that’s no surprise, given that demand has spiked as schools have produced fewer systems specialists who understand how a company’s technology can drive their overall strategy.
Gaining an Aggie education
Man graduates inspired by his uncle, father and son
Robert Eugene Vick came to Texas A&M in 2001 with a pair of borrowed cowboy boots and a legacy to uphold. Graduating in December 2005 at the age of 46, Vick fulfilled a promise of education to an inspiring family of men who died too soon and a son who overcame personal tragedy to earn his own Aggie degree.
Ethics in Action
R. Austin Daily, Director of the Professional Program and Deloitte & Touche Professor
During the past few years the accounting profession has been involved in a number of ethical lapses. As a consequence, the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy now requires that CPA candidates complete a three-hour course in accounting ethics.

Shelter from the storm
Mays makes room, finds help for 95 students displaced by Katrina
“We’ve been told for years it was coming — the big one that would take out New Orleans.”
Ethics in Action
Cynthia E. Devers,
Assistant Professor of Management
In strategic management we cover a broad range of topics from functional-level tactics through corporate strategy and governance. Throughout the semester students are exposed to a number of hot-button ethical issues. So rather than addressing ethics as a separate factor, I attempt to integrate ethical decision making into the entire course.

Accounting for a Generation
One man has impacted thousands of A&M students
Brent Stolle ’98 swore he would never be an accountant. Brent had grown up watching his father, Carlton D. Stolle ’65, teach accounting at Texas A&M, so his decision to attend Rice for his undergraduate degree was a calculated step outside Carlton’s footprints.
Ethics in Action
Joobin Choobineh, associate professor, Department of Information and Operations Management In the honors section of Fundamentals of Information Systems, I spend a full lecture on computer crimes, information security and ethics. These are very important topics for our modern computerized education and work environments.

Three
students and a furniture mart
They spent a week ordering rugs, lamps, mattresses and anything else
that struck their fancy and appealed to their tastes, ordering much
of what the Gallery Furniture buying team would bring back to its involved
and energetic boss.
Ethics
in Action
As we discuss various topics in the Principles of Managerial Accounting
course, I strive to introduce the importance of ethics in the management
decision-making process. Students are required to analyze ethics cases
that contain typical ethical dilemmas and are asked to describe the
ethical issues involved.
