One Mays student has turned tragedy into a business plan to help others heal
Just outside College Station lies a two-acre plot of land with a white rock road twisting toward a large red barn and connected two-bed, two-bath house. The front yard regularly pastures neighbor’s horses and the barn itself stands open to the world, welcoming in evening’s cool breezes. It is a picturesque place and one would never know that anything was amiss except its occupant, Mandy LaCombe ’05.

Robert Eugene Vick came to Texas A&M in 2001 with a pair of borrowed cowboy boots and a legacy to uphold. Graduating in December 2005 at the age of 46, Vick fulfilled a promise of education to an inspiring family of men who died too soon and a son who overcame personal tragedy to earn his own Aggie degree.

A world away on the islands of Papua New Guinea, a vibrant sunset swirls with a rainbow of breath-taking purples, oranges and pinks overlooking green landscapes, soaring mountains and endless crystal waters. Tucked into the South Pacific and the Coral Sea, the land is dotted with 800 native tribes. Any given night, fire dancers kick at the flames with their leaf-adorned ankles and Mud Men disguise themselves in heavy, fragile masks of mud.
