Gaining an aggie education

I want to be a star

Fernando Rivera ’08, a junior marketing major from McAllen, is an aspiring actor—and typical of Mays students, he’s very serious about it. During the winter break this year, he was an extra on the set of NBC’s Friday Night Lights. But it’s all building up to a summer internship that will have him in front of and behind the camera with Days of Our Lives in Burbank, California. He’ll also juggle a retailing internship at the same time to meet Mays’ Certificate in Retailing Studies requirements. As he says, “There is nothing that is going to get in the way of graduating with a business degree and dabbling in the entertainment industry. Sky’s the limit!”

From top to bottom: Rivera waits to check out with his groceries at Wal-Mart; shares a bowl of Ramen noodle soup at home with a friend; studies at home; enjoys a meal out at Texas Roadhouse with friends; and gets ready to workout at the Student Recreation Center.
