Recruiting the best

As the month of March begins, our efforts to recruit the class of 2010 swing into high gear. Many people who know about the high demand for our school ask why we need to recruit students. The answer is simple: we want the right type of students.

As I meet with prospective students and their parents, I continue to be impressed with the type of students who are attracted to Texas A&M and Mays Business School. Our undergraduate students are not only bright, but are special young people. They are leaders in their high schools, involved in their communities and faith, and possess high levels of character. These attributes make them attractive to universities both within the state of Texas and across the United States, and they have many options available to them.

When they ask me about the advantages of Mays Business School, I can tell them of many things. Whether it’s our freshman learning community program (which will be available to all students in fall 2006), our undergraduate honors program (which offers small class sizes and graduate-school type classroom experiences), the 200+ executives who visited Mays classrooms last year, or the almost 500 companies that recruited our students last year, we have much to offer our students. The result: Every fall, I have the privilege of welcoming another 1,000 outstanding young people to Mays as they begin their studies.

This issue of Mays Business Online provides some insights into other special members of the Mays Business School family: our faculty, staff, current students and former students. Please take a few minutes to review this issue and see why our school is a special place.
