Experiential EducationAt Mays Business School, we pride ourselves on the unique learning experiences we provide to our students. These experiences involve blending the classroom education offered by our outstanding faculty with real experiences brought into our classroom by visiting executives and mentors. In most cases, the executives' contributions to our students' education ends at the conclusion of the lecture. However, this spring, a group of three students turned an introduction to a visiting executive in the classroom into an unforgettable experience. This issue of Mays Business Online details an opportunity provided to three of our marketing students by Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture in Houston: The chance to be an apprentice buyer at one of the largest home furnishings markets in the nation in High Point, North Carolina. I hope you'll take the opportunity to read about these students and how their education at Mays, along with such outside learning opportunities, give an extraordinary perspective on business and an early launch to future careers. As you read the students' story, I think you'll see what an effect Jim McIngvale and our other visiting executives have on the education and experiences of all students at Mays. We are truly indebted to these individuals for taking time from their busy schedules to impact the lives of our students. I hope this issue of Mays Business Online finds you well. If your travels bring you to College Station this summer, please stop by for a visit. Best regards, Jerry Strawser '83 |
