Entrepreneurs look to the future at Envision08

Hundreds of entrepreneurs found what they were looking for at Envision08, the first annual conference for entrepreneurs hosted by the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship. The conference, held April 23-25 in San Antonio, was devoted to connecting, encouraging, and promoting entrepreneurs and those in related fields.



ARGUS Software prepares Mays students for future with gift

ARGUS Software, Inc., a global company specializing in commercial real estate software, recently gave a gift-in-kind worth $200,000 to Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. The gift provided 50 copies of their ARGUS Valuation DSC software, which students will be able to use in a campus computer lab.

Relevant research heats up congressional debate

Research from Mays Business School management Professor Leonard Bierman has recently received attention in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, as those legislative bodies consider amending the pay discrimination provisions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Excited cries were heard as students from the Business Student Council passed out new knapsacks filled with school supplies to 601 young scholars at Anson Jones Elementary in Bryan. Mays students orchestrated the entire event, from the corporate and individual fundraising, to the collection and distribution of materials. In all, the group collected $15,815 in monetary donations and supplies.



Mays CPA pass rates still among the highest in Texas

According to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, students from Texas A&M’s Mays Business School scored the highest overall pass rate in the state on the CPA exam (compared to other Texas schools with five or more candidates taking the exam). More than 83 percent of Mays students passed the challenging test, which is the gatekeeper for the field of accounting.



Weber gives Ags career advice

Tony Weber ’84 returned to campus recently with a mission: to let Mays students know about the highly profitable opportunities available in private equity. Weber, who has worked in the energy industry since graduation, and specifically in the private equity industry for the past six years, says it’s an area more students at his alma mater need to know about.



Family makes Mays Business School a tradition

Ring Day is a rite of passage for every Aggie and a time of celebration for every Aggie family. For the Easterwoods, the Ring Day held on April 4 had special significance: As Jeff Easterwood ’07 accepted his ring and looked forward to finishing his degree at Mays Business School in a few weeks, his father, Terry ’80, was celebrating the start of his studies there.



Mays graduate named a Texas A&M 2008 Distinguished Alumni

Texas A&M University and The Association of Former Students has announced the recipients of the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award. One of the four men honored with this distinction is Neal W. Adams, who received his BBA in marketing in 1968.



Payless leader talks about marketing, management, and great shoes

Matt Rubel, president and CEO of Payless ShoeSource, spoke to students during a recent visit to the Texas A&M campus about his mission to “democratize fashion” through reasonably priced footwear. He was the guest of Mays Business School’s Center for Retailing Studies, which recognized Rubel with the 2008 M.B. Zale Visionary Merchant Award for his efforts to reinvent the Payless brand.
